Students of Computing Science, Mathematics and Physics complete their studies at the University of Oldenburg quickly. This is the result of the latest university ranking by the Centre for Higher Education Development (CHE).
All three subjects achieve top positions in the category "Graduation in a reasonable time". The CHE awards the highest score if more than 80 per cent of Bachelor's and Master's graduates complete their studies within the standard period of study plus one semester. "Creating excellent conditions for sound and speedy studies - that is our goal," says interim University President Prof. Dr Katharina Al-Shamery. "I see the very good performance of Computing Science, Mathematics and Physics in the category 'graduation in a reasonable time' as a clear indication of the good support provided by the teaching staff as well as the exceptional performance of our students." Mathematics was also able to place itself in the top group with its scientific publications. Physics achieved two further outstanding results thanks to its international orientation and the design of the introductory phase of the degree programme with advice and orientation opportunities for first-year students. Current students of the subjects were also surveyed by the CHE and asked for their opinion on their degree programmes. Oldenburg's computer science students rated the professional relevance, IT equipment and library facilities as very good, with the subject landing in the top group in all three categories. Physics students also gave top marks to the laboratory practicals and library facilities. The CHE University Ranking is the most comprehensive and detailed ranking in the German-speaking world. The CHE has analysed more than 300 universities and universities of applied sciences. In addition to facts about study, teaching and research, the ranking includes students' judgements on the study conditions at their university. This year, the subjects of Physics, Mathematics, Computing Science, Pharmacy, Geography, Geosciences, Sport, Nursing, Medicine and Dentistry as well as Political Science were newly analysed.
