Nine new competence centres are being created across the country. The name of the Oldenburg Advanced Training Centre (OFZ) will remain the same. The OFZ, which is closely linked to the Didactic Centre, was the model for the changes.
In Oldenburg, the existing OFZ training centre will become a Centre of Excellence for teacher training. The name of the OFZ will remain the same. Closely linked to the Centre for Teacher Training - the Didactic Centre - the OFZ was a model for the Lower Saxony Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs for a realignment of teacher training. In future, training courses will take place in nine competence centres throughout the state. The aim of the changes is to increase the quality of teacher training and, for example, to orientate it more towards scientific findings.
"Teacher training has a long tradition at the university, and Oldenburg is considered a proven location here," said University President Prof. Dr Babette Simon. "I am therefore delighted that the Oldenburg training centre has served as a role model for the state-wide reorientation of teacher training."
Lower Saxony's Minister of Education Dr Bernd Althusmann and the presidents of the teacher training universities recently signed the contracts to establish the competence centres. Dr Jens Winkel, Managing Director of the Didactic Centre, emphasised: "At the OFZ, teachers benefit from the great expertise of university lecturers who deal with the demands of the profession. The OFZ will continue to work on expanding this pioneering position."
