Students will often remember, even years or decades later, lecturers whose teaching style had a particularly formative influence on them or who sparked moments of realisation. Students at the University of Oldenburg can currently nominate outstanding courses for this year’s Teaching Award.
This year’s categories are: the ‘best course’ and teaching that promotes inquiry-based learning in a particularly effective way. Only students are eligible to submit nominations, after which a jury will award the prizes. The jury comprises university lecturers and students from all six of the university’s Schools, as well as a member of the University Society of Oldenburg (UGO).
A nomination must be submitted jointly by at least two students, along with a justification, via an online form by 31 August 2026. Canteen vouchers worth a total of 150 euros will be raffled off amongst all participants.
For each School, the jury will also recognise the course that received the highest student ratings. Lecturers may nominate themselves for this award using their results from the central course evaluation for the 2025/26 winter semester or the current summer semester.
This year’s award ceremony is scheduled to take place on ‘Teaching and Learning Day’ on 12 November. The Teaching Prize is endowed with prize money earmarked for teaching and is sponsored by the UGO.
