How can student teachers be best prepared for the reality of the classroom? In the OLE+ project, experts have been developing ideas for modern teacher training at the university for around a year. On 2 February, the team will present to all interested members of the university how far the project has progressed and what exactly is planned.
Modified teacher training curricula, optimised theory-practice links in the degree programme or theory-practice rooms in which the teachers of tomorrow can try out their interaction with pupils: The improvements that the OLE+ project is expected to bring will affect a good proportion of students. After all, around 40 per cent of them are studying to become teachers at the University of Oldenburg. But it also concerns teachers from almost all disciplines - after all, five of Oldenburg's six Schools are training future teachers.
All interested parties are invited to the public university event "1 year of OLE+" on Thursday, 2 February, which will focus on "Developments, perspectives, challenges". The event starts at 4.00 pm in the library hall (Uhlhornsweg 49-55, Haarentor campus).
The name OLE+ stands for "Biography-oriented and cross-phase teacher training in Oldenburg", i.e. a teacher training project that aims to do better justice to the individual professional biographies of student teachers as well as to link their studies, traineeship and later further training more closely. The core processes not only include optimising the curricula, advising students and organisational structures: the university also wants to strengthen research into teacher training in the long term, with several new junior professorships being created through the OLE+ project. The focus here is on three topics: dealing with heterogeneity, professionalisation and the theory-practice relationship.
At the beginning of the event on 2 February, the Vice President for Studies, Teaching and Gender equality, Prof. Dr Sabine Kyora, will speak. This will be followed by general topics of teacher training, such as the interweaving of theory and practice in the degree programme or the further development of curricula.
In the second part of the event, the programme will be broadened to focus on the individual Schools: The speakers of the School Development Groups will have their say here, reporting on initiatives within the faculties and what has already been achieved. The programme includes subject didactics experts from Education and Social Sciences, Computing Science, Economics and Law, Linguistics and Cultural Studies, Humanities and Social Sciences as well as Mathematics and Natural Sciences.
Teacher training has always been a high priority at the University of Oldenburg. It is the only university in Lower Saxony to offer training for all teaching careers and all school types. It is also committed to lifelong teacher training in further education and training programmes.
The OLE+ project brings together educational scientists, subject didacticians and subject specialists with the common goal of further advancing teacher training in Oldenburg across all phases. The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) is funding the project with four million euros as part of the federal and state government's "Teacher Training Quality Campaign".
