New world music ensemble seeks members

A World Music Ensemble is being founded at the University of Oldenburg's Institute of Music for the 2013 / 2014 winter semester. The ensemble's director Nangialai Nashir invites interested musicians to attend rehearsals every Wednesday from 6.00 to 8.00 pm in the Chamber Music Hall. Music students from all Schools as well as ambitious Oldenburg students with a non-European musical background can take part.

The ensemble's first rehearsal will take place on Wednesday, 16 October 2013 at 6 p.m. in the Chamber Music Hall. "We will work together to develop a repertoire of music from different regions of the world and of course perform it on stage at times," explains Nashir. Whether classical, folkloristic or more popular styles of music are included in the programme depends on the skills and interests of the ensemble players. Anyone interested is welcome to come along to the first rehearsal and bring their instruments. Nangialai Nashir has been a lecturer at the Institute of Music at the University of Oldenburg since 2010. He was born in Kunduz (Afghanistan) and was influenced early on by Afghan and classical Indian music. He learnt to play the guitar in Europe and studied jazz, rock and experimental music. From 1990 to 1999, he studied classical guitar in the degree programmes instrumental pedagogy, artistic training and concert examinations in Cologne and Weimar and won prizes at international competitions in Spain, France and Poland. Numerous modern works have been dedicated to him and premiered by him.
