The offshore wind study programme started for the first time in Oldenburg in October 2012. The 24 participants in the programme, which is the only one of its kind in the world, are about to graduate. Those interested can apply for the next round.

The offshore wind study programme is a further education course for professionals in the offshore wind energy industry. In order to meet the challenges of the industry, it is dependent on fast and needs-orientated further education for its employees. The offshore wind study programme takes this requirement into account. It teaches a broad spectrum of offshore-relevant topics in a theoretically sound and practical manner: Turbine technology, for example, is on the curriculum - but also ship charter contracts and the financing of large-scale projects. 12 study scripts cover the various topics, which are explored in greater depth in five four-day face-to-face seminars. Parallel to the seminars, participants work in fixed teams on case studies to apply the content in practice.

An important part of the programme is the networking of participants and experts: The participants exchange ideas in an open study atmosphere and thus gain a deeper understanding of the projects. The entire industry ultimately benefits from this exchange and the network of experts, which grows year on year.

Applications for one of the 24 study places for the next intake in 2013/14 are still possible until 30 June. Further information on the course and application documents can be found online at www.offshore-wind-studies.com or by contacting Dr Juliane Reichel on 0441/798-5085

The offshore wind course is a joint project between ForWind - Centre for Wind Energy Research at the Universities of Oldenburg, Hanover and Bremen, the wind energy agency WAB e.V. and the City of Oldenburg. Financial support is provided by Bremer Landesbank, nkt cables GmbH, Nordwestassekuranzmakler GmbH & Co KG and Siemens AG.
