The University Society Oldenburg (UGO) is organising the first Innovation Dialogue on Thursday, 23 July 2015, at 17:00 in the lecture hall of the library on the Haarentor campus. This kick-off event will introduce the University of Oldenburg's Start-up and Innovation Centre (GIZ) to a wider audience and launch a series of events "focusing on Oldenburg's future existence in and for the region". This is how Prof Dr Stephanie Birkner (pictured), who researches and teaches at the university as a junior professor for female entrepreneurship, puts it.

The GIZ serves as a central point of contact for students, young academics and alumni of regional universities who are interested in setting up companies. To this end, it offers advice on funding, coaching and training as well as mentoring for start-ups. At the event, Birkner will speak about the importance of self-employment. In addition, young Oldenburg company founders will present their business ideas in short talks.

The founding of the GIZ was made possible after the University of Oldenburg was recognised as one of the six best start-up universities in Germany by the Federal Ministry of Economics. The aim is to create a culture of creativity and innovation, emphasised Birkner. The UGO innovation dialogue should also be a building block in this. The declared aim is to identify challenges in and for the region and to bring together bright minds from different areas in order to provide initial impetus. This is what she means by "Oldenburg Future Existences".

UGO Chair Michael Wefers explained that the new series of events is entirely in keeping with UGO's self-image, because it can help to make the great importance of the university for the development of the region visible.
