Philosophising with children - a conference on this topic will be held at the University of Oldenburg on 3 and 4 July. The event entitled "The Educational Worlds of Things - Thinking Labs of Philosophising? On Practices of Understanding", the Institute of Philosophy is expecting more than 50 participants - including educators, teachers and interested parties from educational institutions.
The conference takes as its starting point the connections between doing and conceptualisation, between thing and language, but also between pedagogy and philosophy, and examines their significance for philosophising with children. A link to the craft of science will be established on Friday, 3 July at 4 p.m. through a tour of an exhibition of historical replicas of physical measuring instruments, which will be moderated by the former specialist didactician, physicist and educationalist Falk Rieß. This will be followed by a panel discussion at 7.30 pm in the library hall. Participants include Dr Daniela Camhy, President of the Austrian Society for Children's Philosophy, Christine Bauer, Head of Nursery Schools at the City of Oldenburg, and Prof. Dr Bettina Uhlig, art teacher at the University of Hildesheim.
On Saturday, 4 July at 10.00 a.m., Hans-Joachim Müller, retired primary school teacher and head of the Centre for Children's Philosophy in Bad Zwischenahn, will philosophise with pupils from Year 3 to 7 about the nature and properties of things. Workshops round off the conference programme. Anyone interested can register for the conference until 26 June by emailing hanna.kallage@uol.de.
