The winners of the University of Oldenburg's 13th Carl von Ossietzky Composition Prize have been announced. This year's prize was awarded for compositions for wind ensembles. The five-member jury, headed by Oldenburg composer and university lecturer Prof Violeta Dinescu, received 55 works from 14 countries.
The Japanese composer Takahiro Sakuma was awarded 1st prize for his composition "Shining Paraná". The prize is endowed with 1,000 euros. The 2nd prize and 800 euros go to Dominik Dieterle from Mannheim for his composition "MA". Veronika Àgnes Fánscik (Budapest/Berlin) and Jona Kümper (Bochum) share third place and each receive 250 euros. Fánscik took part in the competition with her composition "Cinemaniera". And Kümper was honoured for his work "Listen To The Music Playing In Your Head".
Hans-Henning Ginzel from Munich received the Young Talent Award and 300 euros for his compositions "2hoch2", "Dos Àngulos de San Sebastian" and "Atemlos". The jury also included twelve works in the repertoire of the Carl von Ossietzky Composition Competition and honoured twelve further works with an award.
The award ceremony will take place on Sunday, 15 June 2014, 3 p.m., at the University of Oldenburg (Alte Aula, Building A11, Haarentor campus). Compositions by the prizewinners will be performed under the direction of Peter Vollhardt, Artistic Associate at the University of Oldenburg. The University awards the Ossietzky Composition Prize annually in memory of Carl von Ossietzky. Next year, the composition competition for piano will be announced.
