Environmental detectives on the trail of groundwater - last KinderUni lecture with big prize draw

Without water, there is no life, and groundwater is the most utilised raw material of all - a very valuable treasure that must be well protected. In the last KinderUni lecture of the year, "Well hidden and vital - groundwater" on Wednesday, 21 September at 4.30 pm, the KinderUni students will become environmental detectives together with hydrogeologist Prof. Dr Gudrun Massmann and follow the trail of water underground. What exactly happens during the groundwater's journey and what path does it take to become so naturally and abundantly available? And what can everyone do to keep it that way? These are not the only questions that the eight to twelve-year-old young water conservationists will have answers to after their excursion into science.

After the lecture, things get exciting in the Audimax of the Auditorium Centre: This is when the traditional raffle takes place, which concludes the Children's University year and in which all children present take part. The 1st prize: a weekend trip to the capital city Berlin. The main prize, which includes a train journey for the winning child and accompanying person, two nights in a hotel and a Berlin WelcomeCard, is sponsored by Landessparkasse zu Oldenburg (LzO).

The lecture begins at 4.30 pm. Admission to the lecture theatre centre (A14) on the Haarentor campus is from 4.00 pm. Tickets (2.50 euros) for the lecture are available at www.kinderuni-oldenburg.de and at the offices of the Nordwest-Zeitung and all advance booking offices of Nordwest Ticket GmbH. Adults do not need a ticket - they are not allowed in the lecture theatre. They can follow the lectures on a screen in the foyer of the lecture theatre centre.

Without the commitment of the sponsors, the KinderUniversität project would not be possible. The main sponsor this year is once again the Landessparkasse zu Oldenburg (LzO). The project also receives considerable support from the Oldenburg Employers' Association, the EWE Foundation and the business association "Der Kleine Kreis e.V.". The media partners Nordwest-Zeitung, NDR 1 Niedersachsen and Radio Bremen Vier also make a major contribution to the success of the KinderUniversität.
