Office hours for cuddly toys at Oldenburg Children's Hospital: medical students at the university organised a "Teddy Bear Hospital" for the fourth time. The children's fear of visiting the doctor was to be allayed, and the young doctors gained experience in dealing with three to six-year-olds.
Elephant, fox, lion and bear - they all populated the Oldenburg paediatric clinic last Thursday. The sickly stuffed animals were accompanied by their caring mums and dads. Together with medical students from School V - School of Medicine and Health Sciences, the children examined, treated and cared for their protégés at a total of five stations - from the consulting room and X-ray to the pharmacy. A teddy bear called Benny was already waiting in the "Teddy operating theatre": the budding doctors used him to demonstrate how an operation is performed. By the end, the fluffy patients were feeling much better - and the youngsters were more familiar with hospital procedures.
