The University of Oldenburg welcomes its new students with an opening ceremony on Monday, 13 October, in the Audimax of the lecture hall centre (A14, Haarentor campus). In order to give all first-year students the opportunity to take part in the event, it will take place twice in the morning, at 9.00 a.m. and 11.30 a.m.
The programme will include welcoming speeches by the acting University President Prof. Dr Katharina Al-Shamery, the Vice President for Studies and Teaching, Prof. Dr Gunilla Budde, and the AStA. Under the title "From Cameroon to Oldenburg", Lucien Minka, who is studying social sciences and economics at the university, will talk about his very personal journey to the university. Entertainment will be provided by the Student Union's improv theatre "Wat ihr wollt", and music students will also perform pieces from the "70s Revue". The presenter will be Derik Behrens, a doctoral student at the Institute of Biology and Environmental Sciences.
An information market will complement the celebration: with information and tips on studying and the cultural and sports programmes on campus. It takes place from 8.30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the foyer of the lecture hall centre.
