AI guide: Learning with AI

  • by S. Schorer and E. V. Keding for participate@UOL
  • licenced under CC BY 4.0
  • published in October 2025

Description:
This AI guide describes the many ways in which AI can be used in learning, especially in the context of studying. It also emphasises that the results of AI are not always reliable and need to be checked. Nevertheless, when used efficiently, AI can be an aid to learning, e.g. for structuring. In addition, learning with an AI is different from learning with fellow students.

AI at the UOL. What you should know!

For students and other interested parties

  • by S. Schorer, P. Bruns and W. J. Legtenborg for participate@UOL
  • licenced under CC BY 4.0
  • published in December 2024

Description:
This video from the participate@UOL project provides an overview of the use of (generative) AI at the University of Oldenburg and is aimed at students and other interested parties. It explains what AI tools such as ChatGPT can do, where their limits lie and how they can be used sensibly in everyday university life, for example in learning, to create exercises or to improve texts. It also sheds light on why AI cannot replace search engines and what potential risks, such as so-called "hallucinations", can occur when using it. It also explains why using a university email address for AI tools is problematic and which sensitive data should never be entered. In addition, it is shown that the rules for the use of AI in examinations are determined individually by the lecturers. It therefore emphasises why it is important to consult in advance and avoid misunderstandings. At the end, references to contact persons and links to further information are provided.

The video is also available with German subtitles. We also provide transcription files (incl. slides) in German and English.
