International DAAD-Alumni-Summer School 2012 in Environmental Management Information Systems  for Sustainable Development

Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg announces the:

International DAAD-Alumni Summer School 2012 in "Environmental Management Information Systems for Sustainable Development"
14 – 22 April 2012 in Oldenburg, Germany

followed by a visit to the world's biggest industrial fair “Hannover Messe”
23 – 26 April 2012 in Hanover, Germany

The program is organized and hosted by the School of Computing Science, Business Administration, Economics and Law: Department of Business Informatics with the financial support of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

The Summer school targets German university alumni from developing countries (DAC country nationals) who are professionally involved in environmental domain, sustainable development and those who are working for academic or educational institutions, development organizations, NGO's, or private enterprises. Participants should be potential multipliers in a position to spread the acquired knowledge and experience and/or take decisions on implementation.

The Summer school will promote exchange between the participants in the field of environmental domain, facilitate international scientific cooperation and qualify the participants in the field of industrial green technology, IT efficiency, and environmental information systems. The Summer school will foster exchange of experiences, establishment of international networks between the participants, scientific discourse with regard to environmental sustainability, and international academic cooperation in this field. It will stimulate and promote ideas for joint research, technology development and knowledge transfer on sustainable development and corporate environmental management information systems.

The Topics

The main topics that are going to be covered in this summer school include:

  • Industrial green technologies adapted to local conditions in the participants’ countries
  • Green IT
  • Green Logistics
  • Corporate Environmental Management Information Systems (CEMIS)
  • ICT-supported Sustainability Management
  • Sustainable Development

Summer School Program

The program will include:

  • Papers and case studies presented by the participants (alumni)
  • World Café and group discussions,
  • Presentations by invited experts from universities and companies,
  • Excursions to a company in the area of Green Technologies in Oldenburg,
  • Presentations of further research activities of the University of Oldenburg,

Cost Coverage

Following costs will be covered from DAAD funds (up to 1000 Euro):

  • Transport from the participant’s nearest home country airport to Oldenburg and Hannover Messe (includes flights and onward travel).
  • Accommodation and living expenses.
  • All other costs, such as transport costs from participant’s home town to their home airport have to be borne by the participants themselves.

Participants

The participants must be:

  • A citizen of a DAC-country who has a proof of stay in Germany (for studies or researches) for at least three months,
  • Working in the field of environmental sustainability, environmental management, sustainable management, or similar domains,
  • Multipliers, e.g. people who are in a position to spread the acquired knowledge and experience.

The application (in English language) must include the following documents in one single pdf file:

  • A letter of application, stating your motivation for participation and your special interest in the topic,
  • A short CV with personal data (please add list: Surname, First Name, Gender, Organization (in English), Department (in English), City, Country, Phone, E-Mail (one address only), PhD-candidate (yes or no), student (yes or no),
  • A recent passport size portrait photo,
  • A short description of your present duties/position and your personal professional goals, indicating your envisaged field of activities and duty level or showing a connection or co-operation with a private businesses,
  • An extended abstract on environmental sustainability (on topics related to the summer school; extended abstracts must not exceed two pages; please use font type "Arial", font size 11, 1.5 line spacing).

The Summer school will be held in English language, hence English proficiency is essential to follow the presentations and participate in the discussions.
The program for the visit to "Hannover Messe 2012" is prepared by the DAAD, and will be sent to the participants shortly before the visit.

Travel dates

The date of arrival in Germany will be April 14th 2012.
The date of departure from Germany will be April 26th 2012.
