I am interested in the broad field of metal geochemistry in the marine environment, notably in the reconstruction of biogeochemical processes using trace metals. I use standard inorganic analytical techniques (ICP-MS, MC-ICP-MS and others) to study the concentration and isotopic composition of metals in aqueous and sediment samples.
My interests focus on
- the cycling of Fe, Ni, Tl, Mn, Cd, Cu, Zn, Pb etc. in coastal marine and upwelling areas (sources and sinks, removal and regeneration mechanisms)
- the use of metals to discern (i) productivity from oceanic circulation changes in climate records, and (ii) the natural state of an ecosystem from anthropogenic perturbation
- tracing material input from land to ocean using radiogenic isotopes (Nd, Sr).
