Research Focus

My research focuses on diversity and trophic interactions in marine planktonic food webs. For my PhD project, I am investigating the effects of altered grazing and nutrient recycling by key macrozooplankton grazers (krill and salps) on structure and productivity of the microbial community (protists and bacteria) at the West Antarctic Peninsula. Previously, I studied the relative importance of micro- and mesozooplankton grazing in the upwelling system off Mauritania.

Keywords

Plankton - Biodiversity - Trophic Interactions - Southern Ocean - High Throughput Sequencing

Projekt

POSER (POpulation Shift and Ecosystem Response – Krill vs. Salps) - understanding population shifts in krill versus salps due to anthropogenic warming in the western Atlantic sector of the Southern Ocean, and the consequences of such shifts for plankton community structure, biodiversity and biogeochemical cycles.
