Inclusion

An inclusive and accessible society is of particular concern to the University of Oldenburg. The university does not see inclusion as a goal, but rather as a process of accepting and shaping diversity. All university members have the same right to individual development and participation. This approach is based on the idea that it is normal to be different.

Accessibility

The University of Oldenburg is committed to setting up an accessible and mostly barrier-free working environment for students and employees. This concerns, for example, campus construction and design, software and hardware, and website design. The university is working on these areas in the context of accessibility - for example, through the working group "Building Accessibility", which meets quarterly.

Inclusion agreement

On August 31st of 2022 an inclusion agreement between the Executive Board, the Representative for Employees with disability (Schwerbehindertenvertretung) and the staff council was signed in accordance with § 166 Sozialgesetzbuch IX.

The new agreement defines the cooperation between the university management, the representative body for severely disabled persons and the staff council regarding the interests of severely disabled employees. Goals of the inclusion agreement include increasing the statutory employment quota of severely disabled people. In addition to the inclusion agreement, an action plan was adopted which includes measures for implementing the aforementioned goals.

Compensation for disadvantages in academic performance and examinations

Impairments and chronic illnesses often bring conditions that make compensation for disadvantages in academic performance and examinations useful or even necessary.

Students can get advice on the possibilities of compensation for disadvantages in examinations or in financial matters here:

The Representative for Employees with Disabilities (in German) advises on the possibilities of compensating for disadvantages in the context of recruitment procedures.

Recruitment procedures and staff development

Within the framework of the Diversity Audit, the project "Inclusion in Human Resources Development" deals with (further) designing and implementing procedures in order to improve conditions for people with disabilites or chronic disease. In addition to recruitment and selection procedures, the focus is on further training for persons in position of leadership and employees.
