Seminar apparatus: FAQ
What is a seminar apparatus?
By setting up seminar collections, we offer you the opportunity to bring together the basic literature for your current courses in one place across all subjects.
In addition to the separate books, a seminar apparatus also consists of a literature list in which all media, including e-books, are listed. The literature list can be viewed in ORBISplus.
Who can apply to set up a seminar apparatus?
For each course at the University of Oldenburg, the person responsible can apply for a seminar apparatus.
How do I apply for seminar equipment?
A seminar apparatus can be requested using the following web form.
The proposal should be received no later than six weeks before the start of the semester in order to ensure timely processing.
The proposal for the establishment of a seminar apparatus must include
- organisational unit
- Title of the seminar unit
- Person responsible
- Provision period
- Literature list
The bibliography should contain the following information:
- Title
- Author
- Place and year of publication
- Signature of the title in BIS, if applicable
Subsequent additions can be made by email to:
How extensive can seminar equipment be?
The most important basic literature on a topic/event should be summarised in a seminar apparatus. As a rule, this is 10 to 30 works. However, there is no explicit restriction.
If the desired title is available as an e-book, you will find it in the literature list in ORBISplus. In this case, we will dispense with the printed version in the course catalogue.
Copies of essays, photocopies etc. can be added to a course catalogue. Lecturers or their authorised representatives are responsible for providing these themselves. This also applies to ordering journal articles via interlibrary loan.
Which stocks are not placed in seminar apparatus?
Certain works from the holdings of the University Library are not included in seminar catalogues, as they belong to the reference collection and must always be available at their respective locations. These are works labelled "H" (=handbook), "W" (=dictionary), "B" (=bibliography) or "Z" (=journal). For these holdings, however, a location record will be added to the seminar apparatus. The same applies to holdings from special collections, such as the test collection.
Can books be borrowed from seminar apparatus?
Seminar apparatus is always kept on display, the works cannot be borrowed.
Where will seminar equipment be set up?
Seminar apparatus are set up on the respective subject levels of the Central and Departmental Library and in the media library. Each seminar apparatus has its own code.
After the seminar apparatus has been set up, the links to the final literature lists are sent to those responsible. The links can then be forwarded or uploaded to Stud.IP.
How do I find the seminar apparatus in ORBISplus?
The seminar catalogues can be viewed in ORBISplus in the University Library view. It is also possible to search for seminar codes or lecturer names.
