Search literature
Our ORBISplus search portal provides easy, centralised access to the holdings of participating libraries and to a wide range of academic data sources. Printed and electronic journals can be searched in ORBISplus . Journals and serials can be searched at article level and search results can be narrowed down according to defined criteria.
A large part of scientific communication takes place via specialised journals. You can find the electronic holdings of the BIS in the Electronic Journals Library (EZB).
Newspapers provide information on current events in politics, business and society.
An important source of information are databases that prepare and make accessible bibliographic information on specific subject areas. The Database Information System (DBIS) offers an overview organised by subject area.
Learning to research
The University Library offers a comprehensive training programme for students and academics at the university. The programme includes library tours, general introductions to using the library, subject-specific research courses, individual advice and introductions to literature management with Zotero.
You can find all BIS training courses in Stud.IP (70.02). You can register directly for the courses there.
In addition to the library's comprehensive training programme, the subject departments offer subject-specific training units to support teaching.
Literature management
Reference management programmes make academic work easier, as they help you to collect the results of your literature research and keep an overview at all times. With little effort, you can insert citations into your work and automatically create your bibliography in a citation style of your choice.
The University Library offers all students and employees of the university introductions to working with the literature management programme Zotero.
- You can find more information about the programmes on the Reference management page

They offer a fast and direct supply of specialised literature and research-relevant information. As a nationwide system, FIDs complement the information infrastructures of universities and research institutions.
