Literature management
Literature management
Reference management software is used to collect literature for the preparation of a scientific paper and provides an overview of your own literature holdings as well as the management of individual projects. The functionalities can vary depending on the product, but are similar in most reference management programmes. Classic functionalities include the management and import of metadata. When writing a paper, a reference management programme makes it easier to cite correctly by automatically creating the references in the desired citation style.
Literature management with Zotero
In future, BIS will support the use of Zotero as free, platform-independent open source software. Zotero is a literature management programme from the (non-profit) Corporation for Digital Scholarship. It can be used as a local desktop application or as a web version. Zotero allows you to collect, manage, cite and share sources.
An alternative for LaTeX users is the free programme JabRef. Members of the University of Oldenburg can also use the basic version of EndNote via Web of Science.
Switch to Zotero or a private licence
Doyou want to migrate existing Citavi or EndNote projects to Zotero or JabRef?
Migration is generally possible. However, some specific functions cannot be implemented 1:1 in other programmes or require manual rework.Follow these instructions for the migration:
- You want to continue using Citavi or EndNote?
- The licences for Citavi and EndNote have been extended until 2027 to enable an orderly transition to Zotero.
- Information on purchasing a single user licence for EndNote can be found on Alfasoft: EndNote 21 Premium Student Licence.
- Information on purchasing a single user licence for Citavi can be found on Lumivero: Citavi
According to Citavi support, the following procedure should be followed when switching from a campus licence to a private licence: Set up a private email address in your Citavi account in advance in case, for example, you finish your studies and then no longer have access to your university email address. The next step is to purchase the private licence. It is important to enter either the university email address or the private email address that you previously saved in your account during the purchase process. The Citavi licences are then automatically added to the accounts by the provider and users can continue working on existing projects.
