Can education counteract populist tendencies in society? This question is the subject of a series of public events organised by the C3L - Centre for Lifelong Learning at the University of Oldenburg. Under the title "Democracy in danger?", academics from the university will analyse current social developments from various specialist perspectives and put them up for discussion. The four-part series starts on Monday, 4 September, at 6.30 pm in the library hall (Haarentor campus, Uhlhornsweg 49-55). On this evening, computer science didactics expert Prof Dr Ira Diethelm will talk about "Digital sovereignty as a task of general education". Further contributions will follow at weekly intervals: On 12 September, the educationalist Prof. Dr Paul Mecheril will present reflections on migration education under the title "What would it mean to be educated?" (Haarentor campus, building A05, room 0-056). On 19 September, philosopher Prof. Dr Reinhard Schulz will take a look at the significance of our language in the library hall. His topic is: "Keywords on the digital (in)culture of our time". The series concludes on 25 September with history didactics expert Prof. Dr Dietmar von Reeken's lecture: "Historical education as immunisation? Reflections on the significance of history in uncertain times" in the library hall. The lecture starts at 6.30 pm.
