Sometimes blue and clear, sometimes greenish, then again brown and cloudy: water is multifaceted. Just as for life on land, light is also necessary for life in the water.
On Saturday, 22 September at 11.00 am. Dr Jochen Wollschläger from the Institute of Chemistry and Biology of the Marine Environment (ICBM) will address the question "Are we heading for 'dark times' in the oceans?" and invites interested parties from the region to the Exerzierhalle at Pferdemarkt.
The short lecture aims to provide an insight into the topic of "Light in water". How has the availability of light in the sea developed in the past? Are the seas becoming clearer, or are we heading towards a "dark age" in the oceans? What are the possible causes, what are the possible consequences? What about the sea right on our doorstep, the North Sea? And: How is something like this actually measured?
In the "Uni am Markt" event series, a joint project of the C3L - Centre for Lifelong Learning at the University of Oldenburg and the Oldenburg State Theatre, scientists provide insights into research questions and projects and give an introduction to the exciting world of science.
