Fairy tales in everyday culture

Fairy tales and fairy tale motifs are omnipresent in popular everyday culture. In which contexts and how they are used is the subject of a seminar at the C3L

Fairy tales and fairy tale motifs are omnipresent in popular everyday culture. A seminar organised by the C3L - Centre for Lifelong Learning at the University of Oldenburg will look at the contexts in which they are used and the ways in which they are used. It will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday, 25 and 26 February, from 9.15 am to 4.45 pm at the University of Oldenburg and will be led by Sabine Lutkat, storyteller and President of the European Fairy Tale Society. The course fee is 60 euros, reduced 35 euros. Interested parties can still register at short notice by telephone on 0441/798-2275 or -2276.

Whether Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood or the Frog King, whether in advertising or in fantasy literature - fairy tale characters appear in very different areas. Modern literature also makes use of many fairy tale motifs, whether in fantasy novels or poetry. In the seminar, participants will examine which fairy tales and motifs play a role and what the new context does to the traditional material. In doing so, they will repeatedly return to the question of what fairy tales and fairy tale motifs are so suitable that they are used again and again.
