The region between the Ems and Elbe rivers is of central importance for the energy transition. The aim of the recently launched Powerhouse Nord regional alliance is to drive forward the transformation in the north. The C3L - Centre for Lifelong Learning has now joined the initiative as a supporter.
One focus of the C3L is further education on renewable energies. Two successful programmes are already on offer: "Hydrogen for subjects and managers" and "Wind energy technology and management". Further programmes are currently being developed, including one on approval practice for projects at the end of the energy transition.
Powerhouse Nord presented itself for the first time in February in the lecture theatre of Oldenburg University Library. The alliance is supported by individuals and organisations from business, science and administration. At the launch, Tanja-Vera Asmussen, Deputy Chairwoman of the LzO Executive Board, Prof Dr Ralph Bruder, President of the University of Oldenburg and Stefan Dohler, CEO of EWE AG, were among those who called for the strengths of the north to be further developed: There is plenty of renewable electricity between the Ems and Elbe rivers, the most important production plants and landing points for green hydrogen in Germany, storage facilities and pipelines required for the future energy system, as well as research institutions and innovative companies. This makes the north the key region for the success of the energy transition.
