Learning how sustainable logistics works while playing a game: To help transport companies make better use of their options, trainees are to learn how environmental and social aspects can be taken into account in their daily work with a serious game.

In a four-year project launched in September 2024, experts from the University of Oldenburg and a developer of digital games are developing an IHK certificate course. This combines an AI-supported serious game on the day-to-day core business of transport logistics with accompanying seminars. In addition to the free game, there will be competence-orientated scenarios. The aim is to sustainably expand a simulated company. The course deals with working conditions in transport companies, sustainable warehouse management, sustainability reporting and transparency and resilience in complex value chains.

The serious game is designed to help apprentices in transport logistics learn more flexibly. Playing can boost motivation and ideally creates a flow experience. The InnoVET PLUS project NaTuL - Sustainability in the transport and logistics industry is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The University of Oldenburg's departments of Vocational and Business Education and Sustainability and Supply Chain Management as well as the C3L - Centre for Lifelong Learning are involved. Serious Games Solutions, a divison of Promotion Software GmbH, is involved as the game developer. The programme is initially aimed at apprentices in the Northwest metropolitan region and will later be offered beyond this region.
