Many of the therapists remain in the north-west

Training at the University of Oldenburg makes a significant contribution to psychotherapeutic care for adults, children and adolescents in the region. Around half of the 146 people who have been licenced in Oldenburg to date have a health insurance mandate in north-western Lower Saxony and Bremen. This so-called "Kassensitz" enables the psychotherapeutic treatment of patients with statutory health insurance to be settled. In addition, graduates also make a significant contribution to the care of mentally ill people as employed psychotherapists in clinics and other institutions.
In the years 2020 to 2023, 32 psychological psychotherapists and child and adolescent psychotherapists achieved their licence to practise. They were bid farewell at a ceremony on Thursday, 11 May. At the University of Oldenburg's training centres and university outpatient clinic, psychologists complete training in psychological psychotherapy or child and adolescent psychotherapy after their studies; the latter is also open to educators. Students study part-time for at least ten semesters under the academic direction of Dr Joseph Rieforth at the C3L - Centre for Lifelong Learning at the University of Oldenburg. It is possible to specialise in depth psychology and, more recently, in systemic psychology with the state qualification of a licence to practise medicine.
Background: Training in psychological psychotherapy or child and adolescent psychotherapy is particularly important, as many mentally ill people often wait months for a place in therapy. In order to improve the supply situation, it is important not only to improve training but also to work politically to increase the number of places available at health centres.
