On 30 October, there will be a discussion in Hanover on how educational qualifications can be recognised and how barriers in social and educational fields of work can be removed.
Many university degrees and qualifications obtained by migrants and refugees in social and educational fields of work in their country of origin are not recognised in Germany. Migrants are often confronted with institutional barriers and the devaluation of qualifications. How this can be changed will be discussed on 30 October in Hanover at the symposium "Rethinking further education in the migration society - framework conditions for academic appointments in social work and education for migrants".
The conference will also address the role of migrant self-organisations in educational processes. It will also focus on the promotion of networking between contact points and organisations. The conference is aimed at representatives of migrant self-organisations (MSOs), public institutions, providers of further education for vocational qualification, providers of further education counselling, public bodies and their placement specialists - for example from the employment agency or job centre.
The conference is a co-operation between the projects "MIRASTO - Migrant Self-Organisations and Socio-Pedagogical Further Education" and "Contact Studies: Recognition and Pedagogical Competence in the Migration Society" at the University of Oldenburg and the Central Institution for Further Education at the University of Hanover. speakers are invited to submit their proposals for presentations or workshops by 1 October. The conference will take place on 30 October 2025 from 10 am to 4 pm in the Königlicher Pferdestall-Kommunikationszentrum, Appelstraße 7, Leibniz Universität Hannover.
