Saturday mornings in Oldenburg: many citizens stroll through the weekly market, look, compare and shop - the physical well-being is taken care of.
The C3L would like to supplement the "menu" a little and offers additional "intellectual food" as a short lecture on four Saturdays. Right next door, in the drill hall, scientists from the University of Oldenburg await you to introduce you to the exciting world of science with the help of interesting experiments.
Saturday, 4 May, at 11 a.m. in the drill hall:
Elsbeth and her boys
Sons at the front, mum at home and a world falling apart at the seams: during the First World War, numerous families endeavoured to keep in contact despite the adverse circumstances. Prof. Dr Gunilla Budde from the Institute of History at the University of Oldenburg will shed light on an exchange of letters from this period on Saturday, 4 May at 11.00 am in the Exerzierhalle am Pferdemarkt. In her lecture "Elsbeth and her boys. A middle-class family writes its way through the First World War", she will show excerpts from the more than 500 letters that were exchanged within a family of doctors from East Westphalia and explain the work with original documents.
