Talent selection in sport - is it science or fortune-telling?
The University of Oldenburg's "Uni am Markt" will address this question on Saturday, 14 May at 11.00 am. Prof Dr Jörg Schorer from the Institute of Sport Science at the University of Oldenburg will give the first short lecture in this year's public series at the Exerzierhalle am Pferdemarkt (Johannisstraße 6).
Talent scouting plays an essential role in the development of young athletes on their way to the top. While many believe that talent can be recognised, the actual prediction of subsequent top performances is not such a simple undertaking. In this lecture, current findings and the problems involved in recognising talent will be presented using practical examples from the game sports. Some of this seems scientifically based, while others initially seem like fortune-telling.
The "Uni am Markt" is a co-operation project of the Centre for Lifelong Learning (C3L) at the University of Oldenburg and the Oldenburg State Theatre.
Admission is free.
