"Alzheimer's, the disease of forgetting - What happens in our brain cells?" - Prof. Dr Christiane Richter-Landsberg from the Department for Neuroscience at the University of Oldenburg will explore this question at the "Uni am Markt" on Saturday, 29 October. It is the last short lecture in this year's public series. The event in the Exerzierhalle am Pferdemarkt (Johannisstraße 6) starts at 11.00 am.
Alzheimer's is an irreversibly progressive disease of the brain that already affects more than one million people in Germany alone. There is a dramatic loss of brain tissue, nerve cells die off and these processes disrupt communication between the nerve cells. In the lecture, Richter-Landsberg explains how the cells of our brain change during the course of the disease and how this can be detected.
The "Uni am Markt" is a co-operation project of the C3L - Centre for Lifelong Learning at the University of Oldenburg and the Oldenburg State Theatre.
