This year, the 500th anniversary of Martin Luther's famous posting of his theses on 31 October 1517, which is traditionally regarded as the beginning of the Reformation, is being celebrated with great fanfare. In her short lecture at the "Uni am Markt" in the Exerzierhalle on Pferdemarkt, Prof. Dr Andrea Strübind from the Institute of Protestant Theology and Religious Education will look back on the "Luther Year" that is coming to an end on 28 October at 11.00 am. She will also take a look at past Luther anniversaries, which have often been instrumentalised by politics, science and culture. How can 500 years of the Reformation be celebrated today in view of the fraught history of the anniversaries? What function is attributed to the anniversary in society as a whole as well as within and between churches? Can the Reformation be remembered in a forward-looking way? These and other questions will be addressed in the lecture. You can see the full article here.
