KPF Interreg Speed Up!

Accelerating Implementation of Sensors and Robotics in Healthcare Across the Dutch-German Border Region

PIs: Prof. Dr. Andreas Hein, Dr. Corinna Glasner

The KPF (Kleinprojektefonds/small projects fund) "Speed Up!" project aims to enhance the use of sensor and robotic technologies in healthcare across the Dutch-German border region, addressing the significant shortage of care personnel. Despite existing technologies, their practical application remains limited. The project focuses on building a cross-border network of stakeholders, including care institutions, patients, caregivers, and SMEs developing these technologies. Key activities include assessing needs through surveys and focus groups with caregivers, patients, and families to identify challenges (e.g., heavy lifting, inefficiency, or emotional strain) and areas where technology can help. The Dutch Universitair Netwerk Ouderenzorg (UNO-UMCG) and Germany's University of Oldenburg and OFFIS lead this effort in collaboration with regional care networks. Additionally, the project maps existing sensor and robotics solutions like monitoring systems, social robots, and medication dispensers. It identifies barriers to adoption and leverages regional hubs to establish a foundation for an integrated Dutch-German healthcare ecosystem.
