biw210 Socialisation - Education - Formation

Module content:

The primary aim of this module is to record and reflect on central processes of socialisation, upbringing and education in institutional contexts and the resulting possibilities and necessities of pedagogical action. Educational processes in and out of school are substantiated using current findings from educational research and critically reflected on for pedagogical action using case analyses.

biw215 Teaching and Learning

Frequency: Winter and summer semesters
Intended for the second or third semester (before the general school internship)
Scope: 6 credits // 1 lecture and 1 seminar

Module content:

The didactic planning models and their educational theory justifications are explained and then teaching situations that promote and motivate learning, learning strategies and their possible applications are described and analysed. Students acquire basic knowledge of learning impairments, learning prerequisites and the assessment of learning outcomes, as well as the development of criteria-orientated tasks and the assessment of a factual, intra- and inter-individual reference standard.

biw220 Psychological Foundations

Offered in winter and summer semesters
Intended for the third or fourth semester
Scope: 6 credit points // 1 lecture and 1 seminar

The relevant psychological concepts of behaviour and mental processes, such as motivational and social-emotional characteristics, information processing or self-generated or externally generated social perception are presented. In addition, students learn basic empirical psychological methods in order to be able to operate critically with corresponding empirical results.

prx102 General school internship

Offered in: Seminars only in the summer semester
Registration times for internships at the Didactic Centre from November of the previous year
Intended for the fourth semester.
Scope: 1 lecture (four dates) and 1 seminar (attendance is compulsory)

Module content:

Students are given the opportunity to examine their professional motivation in the future field of school work, to try out their own first supervised action sequences and standard situations, to observe the professional field of school with participation and to reflect on this and themselves within it. In the preparatory and follow-up events organised by the educational sciences department, students are sensitised to the unfamiliar role of a teacher in school and are given the opportunity to critically reflect on the experiences they have gained in practice. In addition, students develop their first didactic and methodological skills in lesson planning, implementation and reflection.

prx103 Internship in the professional field of school (only B.A. Special Education)

Frequency: Seminars only in the winter semester
Registration times for internships at the Didactic Centre from June
Intended for the fifth semester.
Scope: 1 seminar (attendance is compulsory)

Module content:

Students gain initial insights into school and teaching experiences. The aims of the school placement are to familiarise students with the planning and design of lessons and support from the point of view of special educational support and to gain practical experience in pedagogical work.

biw225 Research Methods

Frequency: Lecture only in the winter semester; seminars in the winter and summer semesters
Intended for the fifth or sixth semester
Scope: 6 credits // 1 lecture and 1 seminar

Module content:

Students will be enabled to understand empirical studies on school and classroom research and to prepare and implement their own research. This module is characterised by a high proportion of practical research, in which students carry out their own small quantitative or qualitative studies in groups, evaluate the data collected and interpret the results. Students can draw on the skills acquired here in the preparation of the following specialised final theses and, if necessary, in the implementation of the projects as part of the project phase of the Master of Education Grundschule and Hauptschule/Realschule.
