The 'Beiträge zur mediävistischen Erzählforschung' (BmE) serve to publish works in which medieval and early modern narrative in its traditional manifestations, as a cultural technique and poetic process and as a category for literary and cultural-theoretical reflections is thematised. Its subject matter ranges from the early Middle Ages to the 16th century and is not limited to narrative genres, but also encompasses narrative in poetry and play.
The journal does not see itself as 'narratological' in a narrow sense, i.e. it does not aim exclusively at the study of narrative itself, but understands medieval narrative research as a subject-related method of historical literary studies. The BmE is primarily a publication venue for German studies research results, but relevant articles from other medieval philologies and art history are also welcome. The academic quality of the articles is generally guaranteed by a peer review process in which the members of the advisory board play a key role.
The BmE publishes research articles, academic essays and themed issues. Unlike conventional journals, the articles are published continuously online as soon as they have passed through the editorial process. This enables us to make research results generally available very quickly (open access). All BmE publications are archived for the long term and are published under a Creative Commons licence(CC BY-NC-ND 4.0). The layout of the articles is optimised for reading on screen as well as for printing.
If you are interested in publishing in the BmE, please contact the editors Anja Becker and Albrecht Hausmann at any time. We offer organisers of scientific conferences and workshops the opportunity to publish themed issues free of charge as guest editors. We look forward to your suggestions!
