Women in Science and Industry 2021

The research training group 2226 “Chemical Bond Activation” invites you to participate in the online event Women in Science and Industry 2021.

Female speakers from different backgrounds will talk about their career in chemistry-related fields,  their research topics/their tasks and give tips to aspiring young scientists.

Prof. Dr. Barbara Albert (TU Darmstadt)

  • studied Chemistry and obtained her PhD at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn
  • PostDoc at the Materials Research Laboratory, University of California, Santa Barbara, USA
  • 2001 2005 Professor for Solid-State Chemistry/Material Science at the University of Hamburg
  • since 2005: Professor for Inorganic Solid-State and Materials Chemistry, TU Darmstadt
  • since 2020: Vice President for Research and Early Careers at TU Darmstadt
  • formerly president of the Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker
  • Editor-in-Chief of the Journal Solid State Sciences

Prof. Dr. Thisbe K. Lindhorst (Christian-Albrecht University of Kiel)

  • PhD in Organic Chemistry at University of Hamburg (1991)
  • 1992/1993: Postdoc as DFG fellowat University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada
  • since 2000 Full Professor of Organic and Biological Chemistry at Christian-Albrecht University of Kiel
  • many national and international awards and honors, e.g. IUPAC Distinguished Women in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering Award (2017), Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), HonFRSC (2017)

Dr. Hildegard Nimmesgern (Nimmesgern Consulting)

  • obtained her PhD in Chemistry at the University of Hamburg (1984)
  • Postdoc at Emory University of Atlanta, USA (1984-1985) as a Feodor Lynen Research Fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation with a travel grant by the Fulbright Program
  • 2000-2005: VP Knowledge Networks Management at Aventis Pharmaceuticals
  • 2005-2012: Head of Scientific Relations at Sanofi-Aventis
  • 2015-2017: Senior Relationship Manager for Senior Executives at von Rundstedt
  • since 2017 self-employed consultant for career development
  • Chair of the GDCh Commission for Equal Opportunities in Chemistry

Dr. Maria Maragkou (Riverlane)

  • studied Electrical and Computer Engineering in Greece (2001-2007) and obtained her PhD in Physics from University of Southampton, UK (2007-2010)
  • Post Doc in Universidad Autonoma de Madrid (2010-2012) and Ecole Normale Superieure in Paris (2012-2014)
  • Locum Editor at Nature Photonics (2014) and Senior Editor at Nature Materials (2015-2021)
  • MBA in Entrepreneurship and Innovation (2018-2021)

Dr. Sandra Bertermann (Bruker Daltonics)

  • studied Microbiology at the University of Bremen and obtained her PhD at the Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology (2013)

Dr. Insa Prochnow-Sturm (CAS)

  • 2013-2014: PostDoc at the Scripps Research Institute, La Jolla, USA
  • since 2014: employed at CAS, previously as Account Consultant and Senior Account Manager, since 2019 as Global Strategic Account Manager
