Working until retirement – is that still a reality? Whilst raising the state pension age is the subject of political debate, extending one’s working life until retirement is not a viable option for everyone. In this talk, Johanna Sauer will present the latest research findings on what can already be observed regarding transitions into retirement: who is (or isn’t) able to work longer or retire earlier, the influence of health, family and financial factors, and the inequalities affecting women and people from migrant backgrounds.
Healthy university
Active for health and well-being at our university
Health, well-being and social interaction have a significant influence on the motivation, performance and quality of work, research, teaching and learning for each and every member of our university.
According to the definition of the World Health Organisation (WHO), health encompasses not only the absence of disease and infirmity, but also a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being. Optimum work results are achieved by people with a good balance between body, mind and soul and a healthy identification with their place of work and study as well as favourable interpersonal encounters.
The University of Oldenburg offers a wide range of services to create health-promoting conditions for all members of staff, to provide support in the event of health impairments or to prevent such impairments at an early stage.
Here you will find an overview of the various health-related institutions and contact persons according to the above-mentioned understanding.
We would like to help you find a suitable centre and thus support for your concerns. Making use of help or preventative services is a sign of sovereignty and personal responsibility!

Lecture: ‘When time does not heal all wounds: Understanding trauma and exploring new approaches’
'Time heals all wounds' … This phrase is often well-intentioned, but for people who have experienced trauma, it often does not ring true. On the contrary: sometimes time seems to stand still, and the past keeps intruding on the present. But why is that? Without getting bogged down in technical jargon, we’ll discuss what happens in the brain and body during trauma, and why this is a logical protective response rather than a sign of weakness.

This short talk examines the conceptual distinctions between sexism, violence and sexualised violence, and highlights how power and hierarchical structures can facilitate violence. It also focuses on the question of what role each and every one of us plays in this and how, through our behaviour, we can help to make the university a safe and respectful place for everyone.
As part of the ‘mittags-info’ session, the conTakt counselling service will also introduce itself and answer questions regarding sexualised discrimination and violence.
