Graduate funding is the financial support for doctorates for students who have already obtained their first academic degree - i.e. young academics.

Lower Saxony is strongly committed to the promotion of young academics. Lower Saxony was the first Federal State to implement an integrated concept for the promotion of young academics in line with the recommendations of the Scientific Commission of Lower Saxony (WKN). Following successful start-up funding, the establishment of junior professorships in particular has become well established at universities.
