The cluster of excellence ‘The Ocean Floor – Earth’s Uncharted Interface’ investigates the processes taking place on the seabed and their role in the Earth system – in particular, the exchange of matter and energy between the ocean, the solid Earth and the biosphere. To gain a better understanding of these complex interrelationships, we bring together researchers from a range of disciplines, from marine geosciences through biogeochemistry and (micro-)biology to (palaeo-)climatology. Together, we are working in an interdisciplinary and integrated manner to gain a more comprehensive picture of this hitherto little-explored habitat.

In addition to job vacancies at the University of Oldenburg and the University of Bremen, you will also find vacancies here from our partner institutions, including the Alfred Wegener Institute – Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research, Constructor University Bremen, the Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology, the Leibniz Centre for Marine Tropical Research and the Hanse-Wissenschaftskolleg – Institute for Advanced Study.

In 2026, 15 PhD positions and 9 postdoctoral positions (‘Ocean Floor Fellows’) were advertised. Further vacancies and updates will follow during the funding period.
