Innovation Management

The "Innovation Management" module is offered in the winter semester and is taught alternately by Professors Klaus Fichter and Christian Busse. In the coming winter semester 2026, the module will once again be offered by the chair of Sustainability and Supply Chain Management.

The module's lecture highlights the opportunities and conditions for success for technical and social innovations and provides a basic understanding of the possibilities and limitations of managing innovation processes. The lecture follows a flipped classroom approach. Students prepare for the lecture with the help of the multimedia study guide (textbook with videos, tools, etc.). In the lecture, Prof. Fichter classifies the content in terms of its significance and illuminates it using practical examples and application-relevant tools and methods. In line with the content of the respective lecture, students work in small groups on practical tasks. These are a prerequisite for participation in the "Innovation4Impact" seminar, in which students develop and present solutions to specific challenges from innovation practice.

In the "Innovation4Impact" seminar, the content of the lecture is applied under the guiding theme of "Social Transformation and Sustainability". It is based on the concept of challenge-based learning and is structured according to a design thinking process. Students can contribute their own innovation ideas or take up topics suggested by the teaching team. Self-directed learning and learning reflection are central components. The examination for the module is a portfolio, the exact options for which will be presented at the beginning of the module.
