Sorted out!
A teaser exhibition in the collection showcase
Why are items of clothing sorted out? Why perhaps not? What emotions are associated with this? Where do we encounter discarded items of clothing in everyday life? Which paths do they take? Why does this affect us all on a global level? These and many other questions were discussed in an examination of various objects - wedding dresses, school satchels and pants - in a teaser exhibition, which was on display in the Collection Showcase as the prelude to the exhibition project of the same name by the current cohort on the Master's degree programme in Museum and Exhibition.
The exhibition project itself took place from 17 May to 15 June at the Hafenmuseum in Bremen. The questions and aspects that were initially only touched on in this small teaser exhibition were discussed there in four themed sections. Using the example of one type of object each - shoes, underwear, bags, clothes - the sections were dedicated to the diverse and interwoven paths that discarded clothes take. These routes, the actors involved, the resulting environmental impact - all this shows that the topic concerns us all! All sections were therefore linked by three thematic cross-sections that examined these interdependencies from the perspectives of 'global', 'emotional' and 'sustainable'.
In the teaser exhibitions, the students took up scenographic and content-related aspects from the large exhibition project and, starting from the collection showcase, offered viewers the opportunity to get a compact overview of what awaited them in the harbour museum - a warm invitation to follow this teaser there!
