Purchasing decisions: A teaching experiment on information asymmetries

This experiment introduces the topic of information asymmetries in the context of consumption decisions related to sustainability.

As part of the experiment, students learn about the phenomenon of "information asymmetries" and can understand their influence on the decision-making behaviour of consumers. Pupils can also identify information asymmetries "in the real world". They understand how and where such asymmetrical distribution of information arises in their living environment and learn how it can be mitigated or prevented. As the experiment does not require any special prior knowledge, it is well suited as an introduction. In this context, it can be used as an introduction to the topics of how markets work, sustainable consumption or economic policy measures.
