House hunting - A teaching experiment on hidden information

The experiment introduces the topic of information asymmetries with a special focus on hidden information.

The aim of the experiment is to illustrate the extent to whichhidden information can influence the decisions of the participants, how the use of search costs can help to mitigate information asymmetries, and to what extent this limits the participants’ rationality. The experiment can optionally be linked to the topic area ‘Consumer decisions among young people’ (Year 8) or – with a view to applying the findings to structurally similar topics – to ‘Changes in the world of work in a globalised society’ (Year 11).
