Prof Dr Malte Rolf
About the person
Born in Bremen, Malte Rolf studied history, German and Russian in Tübingen and Berlin from 1992 to 2000, during which time he spent time studying in St Petersburg, Moscow and Voronezh.
In 2004, he completed his doctorate at the University of Tübingen on the subject of The Soviet Mass Festival (1927-1941). His doctorate was honoured with several awards and translated into English and Russian.
In 2012, Malte Rolf completed his habilitation at the Humboldt University of Berlin on the topic of Imperial Rule in the Vistula Region: The Kingdom of Poland and the Russian Empire (1864-1915). The study was published in 2014 in the series Ordnungssysteme. Studies in the History of Ideas in the Modern Era. It was translated into Polish and Russian and in 2017 was nominated for the "Pro Historia Polonorum" award for the best foreign book on Polish history from 2012-17 by the Polish Historical Association (Polskie Towarzystwo Historyczne).
From 2000 to 2007 he worked as a research assistant at the Humboldt University of Berlin. From 2007-2012, he was a junior professor of Eastern European history at Leibniz University Hannover and from 2012-2018 he held the professorship for Central and Eastern European History at Otto Friedrich University Bamberg.
