Research

In addition to instrumental and vocal practice, academic research plays an important role at the Institute of Music.

Due to the different areas of study and professorships, a wide range of topics are dealt with in terms of method and content. On the one hand, research is carried out in the respective research areas. The work represents a broad spectrum of research methods, such as empirical (qualitative and quantitative), historical, cultural and media studies and music theory methods. The possible research questions shed light on the most diverse areas of music: What significance does hip hop have in music lessons? What was life like for female composers in the 18th century? How does loudness influence the perception of music? What role does the Neapolitan play in Schubert's Winterreise? How did punk rock develop in Germany? Music schools, general education schools and other colleges and universities are important cooperation partners for various research projects.

On the other hand, students deal with theoretical questions as part of their studies. For example, they develop, carry out and reflect on their own projects based on research-based learning. Research results are mainly presented and documented in final theses (Bachelor's and Master's theses), but also in various seminar examinations (presentation, seminar paper, oral examination). Students are intensively supported by feedback from lecturers and students.
