Counselling office for professionally qualified prospective students opens
As part of the "Open University" pilot project, a new project is now being launched at the University of Oldenburg: the counselling office for professionally qualified prospective students. It offers its services in co-operation with the educational association "Arbeit und Leben" on the Lifelong Learning Campus (Building V02, Room 0-019, Ammerländer Heerstraße 136). The office is open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10.00 to 12.00 and by appointment. The staff advise, support and accompany academic appointments on their way to university. They also help with the design and implementation of preparatory programmes to facilitate the transition from academic appointments to university.
Since 2010, those with vocational qualifications have also been able to access higher education without an Abitur and can study a subject that suits their academic appointment. "By opening up the universities, more and more students are coming to university after a period of employment or on the basis of their vocational qualification, even without an Abitur and examination. It is therefore important that universities adapt to this new target group and create preparatory and support programmes that make it easier for them to study successfully," explains Prof. Dr Anke Hanft, Scientific Director of the pilot project.
The state of Lower Saxony is supporting the project and is providing funding totalling 50,000 euros via the Agency for Adult and Further Education.
