Advisory office for prospective students with vocational qualifications opens
As part of the “Open University” pilot scheme, a new project is now being launched at the University of Oldenburg: the advisory office for prospective students with vocational qualifications. It offers its services in co-operation with the educational association “Arbeit und Leben” on the Lifelong Learning campus (Building V02, Room 0-019, Ammerländer Heerstraße 136). The office is open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10.00 to 12.00, and by appointment. The staff advise, support and guide individuals with vocational qualifications on their path to higher education. In addition, they help to design and deliver preparatory programmes aimed at facilitating the transition from the workplace to higher education.
Since 2010, individuals with vocational qualifications have been eligible for university admission even without an Abitur and can study a subject that suits their career path. “As universities open their doors, more and more students are coming to higher education after a period of working life or on the basis of their vocational qualifications, even without an Abitur or entrance examination. It is therefore important that universities adapt to this new target group and develop preparatory and support programmes that facilitate successful study,” explains Prof. Dr Anke Hanft, Academic Director of the pilot project.
The State of Lower Saxony is funding the project and is providing a grant of 50,000 euros through the Agency for Further Education and Continuing Education.
