Prof Dr Martin Butler, Professor of American Studies, has been elected Director of the Institute of English and American Studies. Prof Dr Ronald Geluykens, Professor of English Linguistics, was confirmed as his deputy.
Butler accepted the appointment to Oldenburg in 2010. He studied English and Social Sciences at the University of Duisburg-Essen, where he also gained his doctorate in 2007. Research and visiting scholarships have taken him to New York (USA), Joensuu (Finland) and Nijmegen (Netherlands), among other places. Butler has been honoured with the University of Duisburg-Essen Teaching Prize (2009). His research interests include popular culture as well as literary and cultural theory.
