What does the picture book "Auf dem Land" by Ernst Jandl and Monika Maslowska sound like? How music, illustration and literature can work together is the focus of the symposium "colour-sound-rhyme-rhythm", to which the University's Research Centre for Children's and Young Adult Literature (OlFoKi) invites you from 12 to 14 November.
On the occasion of the Oldenburg Children's and Young Adult Book Fair KIBUM from 7 to 17 November, speakers from various disciplines will take a closer look at the interfaces between music, literature and illustration during the symposium. The aim is to shed interdisciplinary light on the significance of music in picture books and thus open up new approaches to picture book research from a musical perspective.
The improvisation musician and musicologist Reinhard Gagel will stage a spontaneous opera together with the audience based on Ernst Jandl's picture book "Auf dem Land", illustrated by Monika Maslowska. In the picture book "Da ist heute ein kleiner schwarzer Fleck auf der Sonne" , the graphic artist and professor Sven Völker visualises sensations of pain, which Sting formulated in the song "King of Pain", in high-contrast and formally strongly reduced images. Sven Völker introduces us to the world of signs, symbols, shapes and colours and aims to turn the seemingly tidy and well-thought-out world upside down piece by piece in his lecture.
The symposium "colour-sound-rhyme-rhythm" is organised by the Oldenburg Research Centre for Children's and Youth Literature in cooperation with the subjects of Music (Prof. Dr. Lars Oberhaus), German Studies (Dr. Mareile Oetken) and Art (Thomas Robbers). It is aimed at students and lecturers as well as interested members of the public.
The event begins on Thursday, 12 November, at 3 p.m. in the library hall, Haarentor campus, Uhlhornsweg 49-55. Admission is free.
