Staying in contact with colleagues and keeping up to date with what is happening at the University of Oldenburg: To this end, former employees of the university founded the "Alumni Initiative" in 2001.
The approximately 226 members of the initiative worked in administration or science and still feel connected to the university after their retirement. The "alumni" organise several events every year: In the summer, they organise an excursion. This year, the members travelled to Osten (Cuxhaven), where they took a trip on the famous floating ferry. In previous years, their excursions have included the Rutteler Mühle mill in Carolinensiel, the Jade-Weser Port in Wilhelmshaven and a visit to the research ship "Polarstern" in Bremerhaven.
In winter, they listen to a lecture from various areas of the humanities, natural sciences or affiliated institutes. The former employees invite scientists from the university who have spoken in recent years about topics such as bird migration under changing climatic conditions, Oldenburg as a medical centre or consumer protection in online trading.
Every autumn, the members meet for coffee with the President of the University or a representative from the Presidential Board. They find out about the latest developments at the university - covering a wide range of topics such as developments in science, research or the student body. Even after their active service, the former members are interested in what is happening at the university.
All former employees of the university can take part in the activities of the alumni initiative. You can register in person at the Staff Council with Erika Ahrens in room V01 00-020 (Ammerländer Heerstraße 114-118) or by telephone on 798-2475 to be added to the list of alumni.
