In future, a high-calibre Board of Trustees will advise the Presidential Board of the University of Oldenburg on forward-looking issues relating to the development of the European Medical School. "I am very pleased that we have succeeded in attracting high-ranking experts from university medicine who will provide valuable advice, foresight and quality orientation for the development of the European Medical School until the review by the German Council of Science and Humanities in 2019," said University President Prof Dr Babette Simon at the constituent meeting of the Board of Trustees.
"As a former member of the founding committee, I am very interested in the further development of the EMS within the Board of Trustees. As the former President of Hannover Medical School, the prosperity of the third medical School in Lower Saxony is very close to my heart," said Prof Dr Dieter Bitter-Suermann, Spokesperson of the Board of Trustees.
"The cooperation with University Medicine Oldenburg within the framework of the European Medical School is an important perspective for the University Medical Centre Groningen (UMCG) for the development of European university medicine in order to jointly create innovations for the major social challenges of demographic change in the future," emphasised Prof. Dr Alex Friedrich, Extended Board of Directors (Conventsbestuur) of the UMCG Groningen.
The board of trustees consists of: Prof. Dr Dieter Bitter-Suermann, former President of the Hannover Medical School; Prof. Dr Leena Bruckner-Tudermann, Medical Director of the University Clinic for Dermatology and Venereology Freiburg and DFG Vice President; Prof. Dr Karl-Walter Jauch, Chairman of the Board and Medical Director of the LMU Munich Hospital and President of the German Society for Surgery (DGCH); Prof. Dr Hedwig Kaiser, Professor of Strabology and Neuroophthalmology and Vice-Rector of the University of Basel; Prof. Dr Heyo K. Kroemer, Chairman of the Board of the University Medical Centre Göttingen and Prof. Dr Heiner Raspe, former Director of the Institute for Social Medicine at the Medical University of Lübeck.
