The KinderUni will soon be taking you back to ancient Rome: on 6 March, historian Prof. Dr Michael Sommer will take you on a culinary journey to ancient times in his lecture "Bon Appetit! To the table with Greeks and Romans", historian Prof Dr Michael Sommer will take KinderUni students on a culinary journey back to antiquity.
How did people eat more than 2,000 years ago? Did the same foods exist back then as they do today? And how was food organised for the citizens of Rome, a city of millions? Sommer will be exploring these questions in his KinderUni lecture on Wednesday, 6 March at 4.30 pm in the Audimax of the University of Oldenburg's Lecture Centre. And when the young researchers return to the year 2014 after their excursion into the past, they will know that there were huge differences in nutrition between rich and poorer Romans and why tooth decay didn't stand a chance. Many a KinderUni visitor will certainly be glad that there will be no stuffed hazel mice for dinner.
Tickets (€2) are available online via Nordwest Ticket GmbH (www.nordwest-ticket.de) and at the offices of the Nordwest-Zeitung. Admission to the lecture theatre centre (building A14) is from 4.00 pm. Adults do not need an admission ticket - they are not allowed in the lecture theatre, but can follow the lectures on a screen in the foyer of the lecture theatre centre. The Malteser Hilfsdienst will provide security on site.
If you would like to familiarise yourself with the topic of the lecture now, you can do so in the children's library at the PFL and all Oldenburg district libraries. Special book tables have been set up here.
The media partners of the KinderUniversität Oldenburg are the Nordwest-Zeitung, NDR 1 Niedersachsen and Radio Bremen Vier. The project is supported by Landessparkasse zu Oldenburg (LzO) as well as Nordmetall, the business association "Der Kleine Kreis e.V." and "Junge Öffentliche".
